Class B East Predicted Finish | Rank | School | Preview | | 1. | VVS Red Devils | Look for the experienced Red Devils to be serious playoff and sectional contenders this year. Even though they lose some key players from last seasons team, the Indians still look like the team to beat in the B East | | 2. | Oneida Indians | Even though they lost some key players from last seasons team, the Indians still look like a playoff contender in the B East. With solid returning players on both sides of the ball the Bears could be on the road to the playoffs and a sectional title this season. | | 3. | South Jefferson Spartans | With the return of skill players at key positions look for the Spartans to be solid playoff contenders this season. | | 4. | Chittenango Bears | Look for the Bears to improve this season and make a run at the playoffs. | | 5. | Cazenovia Lakers | The Lakers will have to have some younger players step up quickly if they hope to be a playoff contender this season. | | 6. | Holland Patent | Look for the Golden Knights to improve throughout the season though the playoffs could be a tough sell with many younger players. |
Cazenovia Lakers | 2009 Record: 9-1 Head Coach Tom Neidl | 2010 Outlook
This season the Lakers hope to retun to the top of Class C. Head Coach Tom Neidl ans staff of Jay Steinhorst, and Mark Evens believe they have a good mix of experienced and new players to get that done. Returning for the Lakers this season are Sr. QB Jeff Hopsicker 5-11 175, Sr. OL/DL Liam Ryan 6-0 220, Sr. OL/DL Andrew Toole 6-3 245, and Jr. QB/WR Doyle Judge 6-3 175. If the Lakers can build a strong line from some younger players to go along with an experienced backfield the Lakers could be a solid contender out of the class B East.
Chittenango Bears | 2009 Record: 4-4 Head Coach: Jack Hayes | 2010 Outlook
After a good 4-4 season in 2009, Coach Jack Hayes is looking to build on his success. He will have to move on without last year’s starters like Kyle Mills, James Swagler, Dylan Furco, and Craig Martin. Returning to lead the team are Sr. kicker Zach Drake 5-11 150 Jr. QB/DB Devin Christopher 6-0 160, Sr. WR/DB Nic Bacon 5-8 150, Sr. WR/DB Luke Bicknell 5-10 165, and Jr. OL/DL J.J. Henry 5-10 220. Coach Hayes will have to find some young players to step up and fill some of the holes left by graduation especially in the backfield. They have experience on the line and lots of confidence in a young QB. If they stay healthy, the Bears could be a solid contender for a playoff spot in the B East this season.
Holland Patent Golden Knights | 2009 Record: 6-2 Head Coach: John Hurteau | 2010 Outlook
There are changes again this season for the Golden Knights as they return to the class B East. Coach John Hurteau and his staff of Richard Zacek, Mark Mattice, Richard Hurlbut, and Brian Langley feel they have the returning players to be competitive in the tough B East this season. They will miss Alex Smith, Eric Stys, Matt Rees, and Ben Maciewicz but return sold players on both sides of the ball. The Golden Knights return Sr. RB/DB John Iselo 5’10 170, Sr. RB/LB Robert Smith 5’10 180, Sr. TE/LB Dan Mower 6’1 185, Sr. OL/DL Curtis Hurlbut 6’1 210, Sr/ OL/DL Ryan Mogensen 6’5 225. Newcomers that should make a big impact this season include Sr. QB/DB Andy Hurteau 6’0 175, Sr. WR/DB Mark Parshall 5’10 165, Sr. OL/DL Chas Parsons 6’0 185, Jr. OL/DL Quade Kirk 6’1 185, and Jr. RB/DB Lucas Bardo 5’10 165. The key to the season and biggest challenge according to coach Hurteau is “We need to stay healthy and develop several younger players to compete in Class B East.” Good luck to the Golden Knights.
Oneida Indians | 2009 Record: 4-4
Head Coach: Bill Carinci | 2010 Outlook
2009 was a rebuilding year for the Oneida Indians. With the return of many skilled players the Indians could again be sectional contenders in the tough B East for head coach Bill Carinci and his staff of John Markle and Jason Fuller. Oneida will miss Nate Mallinder, Ryan Shene, Corey Reed, and Mike Rabbitt. Returning starters for the Indians include Sr. WR/DB Shawn Ano 6’2 177, Sr. WR/DB Eric Riley 6’0 165, Sr. RB/DL Chris Chesbro 5’9 173, Sr. OL/DL Kyle Blessing 6’2 222, Sr. OL/DL Brandon White 6’3 295, and Sr. TE/DL Even Watson 6’0 187 and Sr. DB/QB Matt Mosack 5’9 174. Newcomers to watch out for this season include Jr. RB/LB Evan Stoffle 5’8 173, Jr. QB/DB Tyler Mallinder, and Jr. OL/DL Brian Williamson 5’10 184. The key to success for the Indians this season will be to establishing a solid running game and playing good defense according to coach Carinci. The Indians biggest challenge is their need to develop a solid offensive line. Good luck this season to the Indians.
South Jefferson Spartans | 2009 Record: 3-5 Head Coach: John Arcaro | 2010 Outlook
For South Jefferson Spartans coach John Arcaro and his staff of Pat Conners, Nelson Moody, Aaron Rivers, Bud Masters, and Steve Denny this could be a big season for the Spartans. After a 3-5 season in 09 the Spartans are looking to take it up a notch in 2010. Returning this season are Sr. RB Josh Chartrand 6'0 205, , Sr. WR/DL Louis Kendall 6'2 200, Sr. RB/DB Kenny Hall 6-0 175, Sr. RB/LB Mike Drake 5'9 185, Sr. RB/DL Josh Beutel 6'1 205, Sr. OL/DL Jerod-Hayward Weaver 5'11 245, Sr. OL/DL Taylor Musitzer 6'2 200, Sr. OL/SL Brett Hayes 5'7 195, and Sr. WR/DB Matt Kealy 6'0 175. If some younger players can contribute right away and they can play as a team early the Spartans could be playoff conrtenders this season.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils | 2009 Record: 7-2 Head Coach: Gary Oliver | 2010 Outlook
The Red Devils at VVS feel they may be the team to beat in the B East this season. Returning to lead the Devils is Quarterback Tyler Mautner, running backs Colin Way and Dylan Guider. With a solid line on both sides of the ball and plenty of talent in the backfield look for the Red Devils to be solid sectional contenders in class B this season. Hannibal Warriors | | 2009 Record: (4-4) - Head Coach: John Manion | 2010 Outlook
The Hannibal Warriors stayed ay 500 in 2009 and hope to do get over the hump in 2010. They will be without key players from last season like Zach Bukolt, Josh Greco, Steve Kimpland, Dustyn Kidd and Joe Shortslef. The Warriors will be led this season by Sr. LB/RB Josh Lewis, QB/DB Alec Nelson, TE/LB Zach Welling, OL/DL Steve Kingsley, WR/DB Greg Gelsi, RB/LB Mike Sherman, OL/DL Adam Sverieka, and RB/LB Taylor Blair. The B West will hold many challenges this season but the Warriors have a solid shot at the post season.

For the mustangs of Marcellus some big changes this season. New coach Joe Fiacchi and his staff of Rick Belvito, and Mike Weiskotten have the talent back to be a contender in the very competitive B West. They will surely miss Will Fiacchi, Niko Wagner, Kevin Daily, and Mike Quercia. However, the cubord is far from bare. Returning this season are Sr. RB/LB Rick Alfreds 5’9 190, Sr. OL/DL Joe Felicia 6’5 250, Sr. OL/LB Zach Wiley 5’11 205, Sr. WR/DB Steven Raven 6’3 190, Sr. WR/DB Chaz Hayes 6’2 185, Sr. WR/DB Nick Huss 5’9 150, Sr. OL/DL Tyler Tomeny 6’1 220, and Soph. LB/OL Jason Decker 5’11 203. Newcomers to keep an eye out for include Jr. QB Kyle Hastings 6’4 210, Sr. OL/DL David Breuer 6’3 215, Sr. WR/DL Mike Tross 6’2 180, Sr. RB/LB Allie Ragovin 5’10 208, Jr. OL/DL Brian Koes 6’1 200, Soph. WR/DB Duncan Merritt 6’0 190 and Soph. Nick Nye 5’10 160. Coach Fiacchi will count experience in his interior line and at the running back position. His biggest challenge this season is “We must play consistently on both sides of the ball and limit our mistakes. We need to make sure that we play to our strengths and let our weaknesses or inexperience develop throughout the year. “ Good luck to the Mustangs this season.
Phoenix Firebirds | 2009 Record: 0-8 Head Coach: Jeff Charles | 2010 Outlook
After a tough 0-8 season in 2009 the Phoenix Firebirds are looking to get back on track. Coach Jeff Charles and his staff of Chad Rowe, Charles Chawgo, James Cofrancesco, Al Rhodes, Mike Charles, Paul Lyman, and Matt Barnes will have their work cut out for them in a tough B West league. The Firebirds will miss Kile Berry, Cody Labrake, Pete Mars, Alex Matseke, Mike Vinneau, Sean McMonagle Will Cruse and Caleb Wallace. The 2010 Firebirds consist of Sr. TE/DE Dom Albanese, Jr. WR/DB Mitch Alger, Jr. OL/DL Andrew Almendinger, Sr. OL/DL Dallas Baker, SR. RB/LB Tyler Button, Jr. RB/LB Jackson Capenos, JR.
