SECTION III WEEK TWO PREVIEW Class AA RFA Black Knights 1-0 @ Utica Proctor Raiders 1-0 9/10 PREVIEW In one of the state's oldest rivalries the 1-0 Black Knights of RFA travel east to take on the 1-0 Utica Proctor Raiders. The Black Knights are coming off a big 29-6 victory over Liverpool.
Coming off a dominating performance on defense the Knights led by QB Kyle Hash were able to overcome a slow start to pull away with the win. Running backs Jordan Henry and Rich Stapleton each rushed for a score and Hash threw for two more to receivers Zach Barrigar and Josh Royce to lead the Knights. The Raiders are also coming off a big win over Auburn 54-26. QB Jordan Treen was 11 of 12 passing for 348 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two more in the Raiders win. Running back Richard Pete also had a big night running for 67 yards and catching four passes for 172.
If the Black Knights defense can come up with another great performance like last Friday night the Romans have a great shot to stay with the speedy Raiders team. If however, Treen and company can use their speed and athleticism to get out to an early lead the Raiders may run away with this one. This game sure has the potential to see both team light up the scoreboard.
Pre-Game Prediction: Procter 28 RFA 20 Class A ESM Spartans 1-0 @ New Hartford Spartans 1-0 9/10 Preview In a big matchup the 1-0 ESM Spartans face off with the 1-0 New Hartford Spartans. ESM handed Camden their week one loss behind the play of QB Tyler Johnson who ran for three scores and passed for another in the win.New Hartford also had a big night from their QB as Vinny Servadio rushed for 126 yards and five touchdowns in the Spartans win. Both teams have excellent speed and skill players. It is in the trenches that this will be won.
Which ever team dominates the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball will come away with the win. Playing at home could also be a big advantage for New Hartford.
Pre-Game Prediction: New Hartford 21 ESM 18 Class B South Jefferson Spartans 0-1 @ VVS Red Devils 0-1 9/11 Preview In a battle of Class B contenders the VVS Red Devils came up just short against the defending section champion Westhill Warriors 38-28. Running back Colin Way had a big night rushing for two scores and QB Tyler Mautner threw for another.
This week the Red Devils hope to bounce back when they host the South Jefferson Spartans. South Jefferson is coming off a 33-16 loss to Chittenango.
Workhorse running back A.J. Chartrand ran for a score in the loss. Look for the Red Devils to regroup this week and get back on track in the B East.
Pre-Game Prediction VVS 27 S-J 21 Class C General Brown Lions 41-0 @ Westmoreland Bulldogs 9/11 Preview In a match-up of old rivals revisited the Westmoreland Bulldogs host the General Brown Lions. The Lions got a lot of production last week from running backs Kyle Scordo and Nick Nlusacek who rushed for two and three touchdowns respectively and scored 34 points in the first quarter. The Bulldogs also had an excellent week one win over Notre Dame-RCH. A tough defense and an offence led by the running of Ryan Murling, who rushed for three touchdowns, propelled the Bulldogs to the win. Both teams lost many players from last season's sectional title teams but seem to have hit the ground running. This should be a great match-up that could come down to who has the ball last.
Pre-Game Prediction: General Brown 14 Westmoreland 8 Class D Cooperstown Redskins 1-0 @ West Canada Indians 1-0 9/11 Preview The West Canada Indians had a great week one with a 49-20 win over Morrisville-Eaton. Fullback Nate George ran for three scores to lead the Indians. This week they look to keep their momentum going as they face 1-0 Cooperstown. The Redskin's are coming off a big 33-8 victory over Mohawk. Running back Alec Silvera and QB Coley Graham each led the way for C-Town as Silvera rushed for three and Graham for two touchdowns.Don't expect to see a lot of balls in the air in this one. If you are a fan of power football this could be the game for you this weekend. This game could go either way and could be a preview to the Class D playoffs.
